The Cité Internationale of Tapestry and Woven art in Aubusson, France, has organized a call for entries for the design of contemporary original works, in the form of models, intended to be woven using the technique of Aubusson Tapestry, recently listed by U.N.E.S.C.O. as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The international competition which is dedicated to Aubusson Tapestry is open to all artists (from individual candidates or teams with a designated agent) : sculptors, designers, architects, illustrators,… or students currently completing courses in these disciplines.
The competition will award the following three prizes:
- 1st prize: 60 000 € VAT included
- 2nd prize: 25 000 € VAT included
- 3rd prize: 10 000 € VAT included

- A description of the intended work supported by graphics or documents (sketches, models, artwork, photography, etc …)
- A justification of eligibility to enter the competition
- A justification of adherence to the restraints of the technical weaving process
- A list of photographs, publications or portfolio of the candidate’s principle works and references.
Calendar:
- Consultation of the brief as from: Tuesday, 15th June at 12:00 pm 2010
- Deadline for candidate’s reply: Tuesday, 27th July 2010
- Jury selects 7 designers: Friday, 10th September 2010
- Submission of models from the 7 designers: Tuesday, 23rd November 2010
- Announcement of results: end of November 2010.
