Howl's Moving Castle at Sunset
"Howl's Moving Castle at Sunset", the third piece of the tapestry series "The Imagination of Hayao Miyazaki in Aubusson Tapestry" is a monumental creation measuring five meters high and wide. This work pays tribute to the world of the famous Japanese director, who was fascinated by machines and automatons.

Fairy-tale landscapes
The tapestry captures the Moving Castle as it traverses the magical landscapes of the Kingdom of Ingary. The story highlights Sophie, an 18-year-old woman transformed into an old lady by the Witch of the Waste. In search of refuge, she flees the town and meets a scarecrow with a turnip head, who leads her to the Moving Castle, home of Howl, a charming and mysterious wizard.

A diversity of materials
The weavers' threads intertwine to depict a composite castle, blending metal, wood, stone, steam, and beams of light. To best capture the textures and visual nuances, a variety of materials – wool, linen, rayon, and mohair – have been used. This craftsmanship highlights the aesthetic and symbolic richness of the film, while celebrating the millennia-old tradition of Aubusson tapestry.
