Prisca Vilsbol and Dagmar Kestner are fashion designers. They share a common approach that lies between fashion and sculpture. Dagmar creates highly structured and organic clothing and jewelry. Prisca uses innovative materials and 3D modeling to create poetic and futuristic garments.
For Libramen forma, they collaboratively explored the transition from a two-dimensional wall tapestry to the volume of an elegant, three-dimensional dress. They skillfully used the rigidity of tapestry material to create a fluid and airy garment, where the eye is lost between structure and pattern.
To achieve this, they played with draping and pleating effects through woven trompe-l'œil representations, creating and amplifying the sensation of volume and the sculptural and textile nature of the dress. The warp threads were dyed and, at times, visible, used for the actual pleats present in the tapestry. The open, sophisticated, and lightweight cut of the dress integrates with the tapestry material to give rise to a clever refinement. In the history of woven art, Libramen forma follows countless representations of drapery found in wall tapestries, draperies that have always been a challenge met by the art of trompe-l'œil.
