Salades, Sébastien Gouju (maquette)

Presentation
Sébastien Gouju, Salades, Special Jury Mention, 2016. Model preserved by the Cité internationale de la tapisserie.
Working on the question of the link and hierarchy between "noble arts" and "minor arts," Sébastien Gouju humorously revisits the traditional verdure tapestries of Aubusson. Starting from the concept of decor, he drew inspiration from what decorates our plates, immersing us in a salad bag. He presents a composition of salads, a mixed salad, in its most standardized, most industrial form, with a highly contrasted and graphic treatment.
Informed by the constraints of the textile medium, Sébastien Gouju chose to limit his design to 20 colors and to play with the technical language of tapestry to translate the almost organic bubbling of his composition into a controlled weaving project. The jury wanted to highlight the quality of his work by awarding him the special mention in 2016.
