Presentation

In the "exquisite" space of the night, spring is king, Julie Bena, Call for Creation 2019.

Tapestry project measuring 3.85 x 1.80 m, in association with a costume (a painted leather coat, leather pants, and a lace bodysuit), possibly worn as part of a narrative performance, a high chair with a metal, glass, and fabric tray. The installation can be complemented with a carafe and glasses.

With "The Open Work: Tapestry in Extension," the theme of the 2019 call for creation invited artists to imagine tapestry as the central piece of a contemporary artistic and decorative installation, creating around the woven work an immersive, modular space adaptable to living spaces as well as exhibition areas, using elements that incorporate other techniques (textile or paper prints, metal, ceramics, enamel, wood, etc.), and echoing the tapestry.

Alongside the Grand Prize of Anne-Laure Sacriste and the 2nd Prize of Raphaël Barontini, the selection jury chose to retain 3 models from the 10 finalist projects of 2019 to promote this type of installation to professionals. Julie Bena’s project was retained and is made available to potential commissioners.

Trained at Villa Arson in Nice and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels, Julie Bena is represented by the Joseph Tang gallery in Paris.
