Jean-Baptiste Bernadet - "Sans titre"

Presentation

Jean-Baptiste Bernadet, in his pictorial work, develops an eminently chromatic, vibrational universe, where color is atmospheric. He deploys on the surface of the canvas a field of fleeting perceptions and impressions, of sensibilities that are paradoxically abstract yet highly material. The brushstroke and the color are intimately linked, even merged, creating for the viewer’s eye the conditions of an unstable apparition, an evanescent light, a mirage in the painting.

Here, the tapestry sublimates the intimate relationship of a resolved textile identity, carried by colored and flecked silk and linen threads woven together, which reflect this enigmatic changeability on the surface, a gradient or immaterial colored optical veil. The craftsmanship radically combines the deep nature of the fibers, the painter's brushstroke gesture, and notably through the textile structure of the knotting weave, a high virtuosity in the weaving gesture of the weft. The tapestry, as if made of light and color, expresses a nervous and held material, radiant.
