Carré d'Aubusson

The "Carré d’Aubusson" collection aims to initiate and produce a series of contemporary tapestry works, at the scale of living spaces and decorative elements, with a square surface of approximately 3.5 m² (1.84 m x 1.84 m), in close collaboration with galleries.

Presentation

In contrast to the monumental project calls that the Cité de la tapisserie carries out elsewhere, each square tapestry, with its heritage and contemporary value, will serve as a textile screen, a pictorial window, a woven landscape...

In this particular collection, the decorative strength reconnects with the traditional use of tapestry, a movable product and vertical furniture, at a domestic scale: a format with immersive value and, paradoxically, suited to daily life.

The collection aims to produce works intended for hanging in intimate spaces. The selection of contemporary artists, whose interpretation of the visual language thoughtfully engages with the tapestry technique, the textile in its present context, and the intrinsic qualities of an image that appears in the fabric through a specific transcription, serves to modernize the medium.
