The Last chapter of this extraordinary story !

It is with immense joy and deep emotion that we are delighted to unveil the final Aubusson tapestry inspired by the imaginative world of Hayao Miyazaki.

Since 2019, the Cité internationale de la tapisserie d’Aubusson and Studio Ghibli have brought together the poetry of Japanese animated cinema and six centuries of textile tradition and craftsmanship. From this unique encounter have emerged monumental tapestries that give tangible form to the studio’s iconic imagery, translating it into a centuries-old art form.

Following Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle and My Neighbor Totoro, this extraordinary artistic journey is now set to reach its culmination with Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, the landmark 1984 film directed by Hayao Miyazaki and produced by Isao Takahata.

Driven by a profoundly humanist narrative that explores the relationship between humanity and the natural world, this final creation will bring together the talents of the tapestry designer and colourist, the dyer and the master weavers of Aubusson. Months of work, thousands of individual gestures and exceptional mastery of colour and thread will be required to bring this universe to life and complete this remarkable tapestry.

Why are we launching this fundraising campaign?

Your support will help us bring this extraordinary adventure to its final stage, celebrate and preserve Aubusson’s exceptional craftsmanship, and keep alive this remarkable collaboration between France and Japan.

Support the creation of Nausicaä and help bring to completion an exceptional contemporary tapestry measuring 170 m² — set to become the largest Aubusson tapestry created in the 21st century.

Together, let us make this final tapestry a symbol of an artistic encounter that will continue to transcend generations and borders.
