Coming in 2025: “Les Mains d’Aubusson” presents an exceptional, large-scale tapestry installation (23m x 2.15m), currently in production in Aubusson. This original creation pays tribute to George Sand, marking the 150th anniversary of her death in 2026.
This tapestry installation renews the tradition of commemorative tapestries by offering a contemporary artist’s perspective on the life and work of George Sand, a major literary figure. Commissioned by the Cité internationale de la tapisserie and entrusted to French artist Françoise Pétrovitch, this public art project is supported by the French Ministry of Culture, the Departmental Council of Indre, and the Regional Council of Centre-Val de Loire. Weaving began in spring 2024 and has been entrusted to the Robert Four Tapestry Workshop in Aubusson, which offers guided visits to discover this remarkable work-in-progress — a creation requiring over 8,000 hours of craftsmanship and set to be unveiled in June 2026.
