L'imaginaire de Hayao Miyazaki en tapisserie d'Aubusson

–

For more than fifteen years, the institution has pursued an active programme centred on large-scale narrative tapestries, reviving the spirit of the woven cycles of the 17th and 18th centuries. Following the success of the Aubusson Weaves Tolkien tapestry series, dedicated to J. R. R. Tolkien — on display in Angers from 9 April to 8 November 2026 — the Cité is continuing this momentum with an ambitious new project devoted to the universe of Japanese filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki.

Created in partnership with Studio Ghibli, this unprecedented project will see the creation of a monumental ensemble comprising six tapestries inspired by his animated films. The translation of a cinematic universe into the medium of tapestry is a rare undertaking, bringing together heritage, contemporary artistic creation and visual storytelling.

Through Hayao Miyazaki’s Imagination in Aubusson Tapestry, the Cité reaffirms its commitment to fostering dialogue between artistic disciplines and across eras.

True to the tradition of grand narrative tapestries, these works are conceived to endure through time, carrying Hayao Miyazaki’s imaginative world into the future through the hands of exceptional craftsmanship.
